FAQ

Why choose a willow casket?

Hand-woven caskets are both beautiful and environmentally sustainable. From soil to soil, the materials used are all renewable resources, mainly grown naturally on our farms and 100% biodegradable when used for burial. Our caskets are an elegant choice for green burials, conventional burials and cremation.

Can the casket be used in a cremation?

This largely depends on the individual crematorium and their standards. All of the materials are combustible and natural. We are happy to provide more details if needed. We can also provide some additional customization if required.

How do I participate in casket builds?

If you are interested in assisting with building your own or a loved one’s casket we can arrange for you to help with the weaving for either a morning or afternoon at our studio outside of Antigonish, NS. You are welcome to bring special objects that can be woven into the casket. Please let us know if you would like to do this to ensure that we can weave it into the design. We ask for as much notice as possible so that we can find a suitable date for everyone and prepare materials. You are welcome to bring along a few family and friends.

What kind of wood is used in the casket base and lid?

We have several options available all using locally sourced wood. Most of our caskets have a poplar wood base. The lid in-lay can be customized, with enough notice. We have access to regional hardwood.

Can I choose my own colours of willow?

Yes and no, we have a selection of pre-built caskets that are available for immediate purchase. If you have particular colours of willow you would like in your casket that are not already made you would need to allow for a 4-6 week lead time to complete. Some colours may not be available depending on supply. Get in touch for more information and to discuss options.

Can a willow casket hold the weight of a body?

The solid wood base and integrated woven construction makes them very strong, able to hold up to 300lbs.

Do people purchase their caskets in advance?

We encourage people to purchase their caskets in advance as they are an incredible piece of work. They can be used as a blanket basket, have a top put on them to make a coffee table or stored in a dry space. Please check with your chosen funeral home to ensure your choice meets their requirements.

What type of payment do you accept?

We are able to accept credit card, e-transfer, money order, and cheques at this time. We are unable to offer payment plans.

Do you ship?

Yes, we are able to ship caskets anywhere in Canada. Shipping charges vary depending on location, please contact us to request a quote. Allow 3-7 days for your shipment. We can deliver within Antigonish County for free. Regional deliveries are also available for a fee.
